Although Crash Bandicoot was the original PlayStation’s flagship franchise and developer Naughty Dog’s first game, Sony never owned the rights to Crash Bandicoot. In fact Universal Studios did and later on sold the rights to Activision, the publisher behind franchises such as Call of Duty and Skylanders. Activision did not do a very good job with the franchise and the last game that was released was Crash: Mind Over Mutant in 2008. New evidence, although limited, is pointing towards the fact that Sony has purchased the rights to Crash Bandicoot and a new game could come fairly soon.
Reddit user cocobandicoot put a together a post that puts together some dots and connects some pieces that point towards Sony’s purchase. The picture below, which was featured in one of PlayStation’s new ads, shows what seems to be Crash pointing towards a diamond, which is Sony Computer Entertainment’s logo.
That doesn’t convince you? Well Activision has pulled the Crash Bandicoot website (the archived version can be seen here) and all evidence that Activision owns Crash has disappeared. At least we know for sure that Activision is not making another Crash game, but do you think that Sony purchased the rights? Let me know in the comments!
